Questions on Rand

November 1, 2006 · 5 Comments

29. How does Rand agree with Marx?

Marx created communism which I thought Rand was completely against. So, I do not see how she would agree with anything he said.

32. What does Rand think is heroic? Does she share the common sense view on heroes?

Would this be someone good in business? Someone not using charisma but their own smarts to create a product and they know what they want to do with the idea? And I wasn’t sure what a common sense hero was.

35. Has Rand explained the path to happiness correctly?

I thought Rand explained her business views. Would happiness be a part of that? So say a happy person would be one who was a successful businessman.

41. Explain Rand on right.

I’m not sure if I have everything for this question. A person has a right to total freedom. They shouldn’t have to sacrifice anything unless they want to (anti-religion). People should be allowed to trade in a free market and work without government interference.

    29. The only think Rand agrees with Marx about is that your personality goes into what you make and you should be able to keep what you produce.

    32. Yes Rand think that a hero is someone who produces something. The common sense hero would be something who does good for others and is a genuinly good person that people aspire to be like. She wouldnt care at all about the good deeds people do and would not agree with the common sense hero.

    35. I think Rand sees the path to hapiness as being successful by your own means and not having to listen to a boss or authority figure. She wants us to aspire to the exelence of name brand products.

    41. I deffiently think you are right that she wants complete freedom and anything you make should be yours. This would mean freedom of speech and to abortions. She is however opposed to some rights such as welfare rights.

    39. In what ways do Rand and Weber differ about what is characterisitc of the US?
I didn’t know what to say for this…any thoughts?

Weber thinks we work too hard while Rand thinks we don’t. Weber views work as negative while Rand doesn’t. Weber believes that we feel that we have a duty to our bosses while Rand thinks we should try to be the boss. Weber says we don’t enjoy our possessions while Rand says we do. They do agree on the fact that they want us to enjoy oursleves.

    31. What does rand think is good about brand names?

I remeber we talked about this in class but I don’t remember the answer.
